Healthy Worthington Family Resource Center and Food Pantry

On July 28th Healthy Worthington will be hosting a Jazzy Summer Fundraiser to benefit the Worthington Family Resource Center and Food Pantry.  The fundraiser will be from 7pm – 10pm at the newly renovated Shops at Worthington Place.

Obviously this evening is a win, win, win, win!  You can come hang out with myself and my smoking hot wife, you can listen to great music by Bradley Sowash and you can support the Shops at Worthington Place.  Most importantly you can help members of our community who are struggling to make ends meet and rely on the Family Resource Center and Food Pantry.

Last fall the Columbus Dispatch wrote an article regarding the increase in students on free and reduced lunch in the suburbs.  The chart on the left details the dramatic shift in Worthington.  In 2001 Worthington had 5% of our students needing assistance and in 2011 that number had risen to almost 27%.  You can read the article here:  Columbus Dispatch Article

Worthington is a much more diverse community than the one I grew up in, both ethnically and socio-economically.  For my kids I like this shift.  It’s real world and it creates a richness.  However, it also creates new challenges for teachers and school administrators.  There is a very wide variance to the experiences our students have coming into school and a wide variance to the home environments they return to each day.

Worthington is an amazing community. To help families in need the Family Resource Center and Food Pantry was created.  Our school district supports this effort and many district staff volunteer their time to help the pantry.  I see Evening Street Principal, Mary Rykowski, and Worthington Hills Principal, Tamu Lucero, each Saturday morning as they work diligently to raise awareness of this resource.

p.s.  If you no longer live in Worthington, or even in Ohio, but would like to give back to the community that once gave so much to you, the food pantry accepts monetary donations that can be accessed here:
