You Better Be Running…

I’ve had the following African Proverb hanging in my mudroom for several years.  It hangs right above my running shoes and is daily motivation to pound the pavement for a few miles.

Every morning in Africa a gazelle wakes up. It knows it must run faster than the fastest lion or it will be killed. Every morning in Africa a lion wakes up and it knows it must run faster than the slowest gazelle or it will starve to death. It doesn’t matter if you’re a lion or a gazelle, when the sun comes up, you better be running!”

It’s also relevant to end this series of posts that I have catagorized as “Putting the Pieces Together.”

The posts included explanations on how we are changing what we teach, how we teach, how we assess and how we evaluate teachers.  Hopefully, I have also explained how all of these things fit together and the seismic shift they are making in our organization.

Change happens.  I personally believe most of this is very positive change.  But, there are no breaks.  Everyday we’ve got to get up and work as hard as we can to get better at what we do.  Lion or Gazelle.  We’ve got to be running!
