“The ball is tipped
and there you are
you’re running for your life
you’re a shooting star
And all the years
no one knows
just how hard you worked
but now it shows…
(in) ONE SHINING MOMENT, IT’S ALL ON THE LINE
ONE SHINING MOMENT, THERE FROZEN IN TIME”
Saturday night was another Worthington v. Worthington showdown. This time the game was basketball, and the court was Bob Miller Court, on the Campus of Thomas Worthington High School.
For atmosphere nothing beats a packed gymnasium. Rowdy Thomas Worthington fans wore red and waved; the student store created and sold, official rally towels. Crazy Worthington Kilbourne fans wore black, and when the student section overflowed with too many students, a student leader politely asked myself, and school Principal Angie Adrean, if we would move to a more adult location so they could fit more students in. The student cheering sections brought their “A” game.
The night began with Thomas Worthington senior Mariana Bonilla’s stirring rendition of the Star Spangled Banner and ended with Thomas Worthington winning 53-42. Both teams played good basketball. Our fans were well behaved and our school administrators were pleased with a successful evening.
Basketball season is just beginning. Our hope is that both high schools have great success on the court and in the classroom. Saturday night was a great start. Our teams will meet again on Saturday, February 2nd at Worthington Kilbourne. You’ll want to be in your seat early. The gym will be packed with red and blue!
